How to Setup a Parent/Child AR Relationship

In this tutorial, you will learn how to setup a parent/child accounts receivable relationship.

Parent Account – This is the primary account in a Parent/Child relationship. All Account charges and A/R Payments are viewable on this account. All the billing is done from this account.

Child Account – Secondary account that is setup to charge to parent account. Charges and Payments can be done to this account, but this account is not available in the Billing Wizard. Example Child Accounts; Husband/Wife, Father/Son, Corporate Accounts.

NOTE: A Parent/Child Relationship cannot be severed once payment history is created in versions prior to 2015. In 2015 and newer software follow this procedure to sever the relationship

Create Parent Account

  1. From the customer list, right click the Parent profile and choose modify.
  2. Under Sales Tab, click Setup.
  3. Toggle Active checkbox.
  4. Assign Billing Class.
  5. Click OK.

Assign Child Account

  1. From customer list, right click the child’s profile and choose modify.
  2. Under Sales Tab, click Setup.
  3. Toggle Active checkbox.
  4. Click ‘Charge to’ dropdown and select Parent Account (customers with account have green background).

View Account Activity

  1. Right-click Parent Account.
  2. Select Modify.
  3. Click Sales | Invoices.
  4. Any transactions with person logo represent a child account charge.
